Since the dawn of video games, cheats have existed in one form or another. Most of the first cheat codes were put in games for testing purposes. Cheats were introduced to help lower the time it would take for play tester to test the game. An example of an early cheat code can be found in the game Manic Miner. The phone number of the developer will activate the cheat mode.
Cheating on early home computers was common practice. Numerical values are stored ‘as is’ in memory of a computer game. It is possible for a gamer to reprogram a small portion of the game before starting it up. With early 8-bit computers, it was common for a gamer to load a game in to memory, and modify memory addresses before launching the game. This could result in getting extra lives, invisibility, etc. POKE sentences were used in order to perform such operations. With the proper cartridge or add-on, a player of the Commodore 64 or ZX Spectrum would be able to freeze a running program and enter a new POKE.
Magazines of the time would often contain lists of POKE’s and instructions for using them in games. To find POKE’s, a hacker had to be able to interpret machine code and then locate the specific point where a value changes.
Technology oriented players were able to exploit such methods of cheating because of the difficulty of doing so. However, an industry was very quickly formed on the back of cheating as new gaming systems evolved. Cheating has now become a part of a strong gaming culture and books, guides and cheat cartridges are available for almost every platform. Cheating was not always accepted though, and many have spoken out against it over the years. It was often considered that cheating is not part of the philosophy of fairness.
With modern gaming, cheating has become very popular. There are now dozens of magazines and hundreds if not thousands of cheat based websites. In fact, even a television show dedicated to listing cheats has been created. POKE cheats are now a thing of the past and trainers and cheat codes are now main stream. Most cheats these days are not implemented by gamers, but are in fact inserted into the game by the developers.
There are a few reasons why developers insert cheats into games. One reason is that with such a large cheating culture in modern day gaming, cheats have become expected by gamers. Also, game developers realise that not everyone has the time to finish their games and cheats are therefore inserted to help speed up the process. People such as game reviewers fit into this category and cheats will allow them to experience more of the game. Not to mention that cheating can really increase the replay-ability of a game by adding a new twist.

YoVille for Facebook Surges
The good news about YoVille Facebook and YoVille for Myspace is the game has grown to epic membership and playing. And let’s face it: the game is fun!
Over 15 million young adult, teens, and tweens (for the most part) have glommed onto the idea of building up their unique online identity (epitomized by a cartoon-ized, large-bobble-headed “Bratt-doll-esque” avatar), including their own apartment, furniture, pets, friends, and career (although “working at the YoVille factory” may not have been what mom and dad imagined after college!).
But along with the YoVille online membership and RPG game-playing surge, hundreds of hackers have concocted facebook yoville game cheats and other online hacks and game loopholes for getting ahead in the small town of YoVille. Chief among these “cheats” are methods (or at least claims) to attain free yocash, the main economic driver in Yoville, and Yoville coins. Yocash and coins are the currency in Yoville and, just as in real life, “make the world go round”… and a world of difference to teens seeking to “one up” their online Facebook friends: ”You’ve go a new virtual dog pet? Well I’ve got the “white tiger!”.
YoVille Game Cheats Come and Go … but Security Questions are the Same
The same personalities who concoct the facebook and/or Yoville game cheats also brag incessantly about what they’ve discovered, so generally their secret doesn’t last long. And as soon as thousands of people suddenly have, for example, a new White Tiger for a Yoville home pet, the rigor of Yoville game moderators is focused on the new exploit and the new Yoville game cheat is quickly undone.
But for those honestly looking to succeed or get ahead in the small town of YoVille … cheats or not … where can they turn for solid advice? Current and future “YoVillianaires” are advised by expert Facebook app designer and online gaming enthusiast Sam Hedman to ‘just put in a lot of regular gameplay time.” Hedman also shared these helpful tips:
1. Don’t ever give out your Facebook user id or password. Anyone who “needs” this information is a scammer, and you’ll soon discover your Facebook and Yoville identity has been stolen.
2. Read a solid YoVille ‘How To’ Guide and master the Yovill tips and tricks, as well as the game-play basics; then continuously follow the methods outlined.
3. Join and interact with a popular Yoville user group on Facebook (Free Yoville for example)
4. Practice, participate, and play!
In addition to regular coding game cheats, there are ways to configure internet browser settings (e.g. java-script settings, cookie settings, etc.) to take advantage of Yoville game cheats… methods the designers find impossible to curtail. For example, cloning items in Yoville has become a concern. Nonetheless, overall the makers have done a decent job curtailing abuse and leveling the playing field for everyone.

When it comes to modern day video gaming, the sky is the limit. Over the years video games have evolved from basic two dimensional actions like that seen in classics like Pong to full three dimensional worlds that are fully explore able by the player. With such advancements, realism has also improved to such a point that at times it can be hard to tell the difference between a real or rendered image.
The one thing that has remained a constant in the world of video games is the use of codes and cheats and the inclusion of Easter eggs. Below you will find more information on what cheat codes actually are.
A cheat code is best defined as a button combination or password which can be entered in order to trigger an event or effect within the game. Often you will find that cheat codes perform simple things such as adding ammunition to a weapon, giving a particular item, making one invincible or possibly even changing a character completely.
On the other hand, an Easter egg is a surprise that may be hidden somewhere within the game. The origins of the first Easter egg are unknown, however developers continue add them in to their games. A classic game series for Easter eggs is the Grand Theft Auto series where Easter eggs are hidden in every little corner of the games.
Another way to cheat can involve the use of a cheat device rather than a code that is entered through the keyboard or controller. A cheat device is a piece of hardware or software designed for the specific purpose of cheating. Through the use of such devices, a player is able to enter codes or actually slightly modify the contents of a game. The most common cheat devices are the Game Shark, Action Replay and Code Breaker (also known as the Xploder).
Cheat codes are generally safe to use and there are millions of gamers around the world who actively use cheat codes in their everyday gaming. Cheat codes will not hurt your game system or game. Manually entering a cheat code while playing simply activates a dormant section of code in the game programming so that the desired effect can be achieved (unlimited ammo, invisibility, etc.).
Although it is rare that you hear horror stories of cheat codes messing up some poor sap’s gaming system, it can happen when using downloaded files. With downloaded files, only the person who created the extra code knows exactly what is does. At times such files can do some serious damage, but it is incredibly rare.
At times, the use of codes can make your game become unstable when you enter a code or add a patch to the game. One common effect is the loss of the ability to save your progress. Also, your game may simply crash. Most cheat pages will warn you if the code has a habit of causing such side effects.
Almost every video game system is capable of using cheat codes in one way or another.

The PS2 video game system is still by far the most owned console, therefore it makes sense that there are tons of cheats and codes for the numerous games that are available for Sony’s game system.
Unfortunately, finding the best codes for PlayStation 2 video games isn’t nearly as simple as typing game title plus cheats into the search engin of choice. You’ll need to know where to look, what to search for when you get there, and exactly how to detect a bogus code or cheat code site in an instant.
The fact of the matter is that if you have a decent list of good cheat sites to start with, you can forego the search on the engines Of course, there is the possibility that if you get a game really close to release that you may need to wait for gamers to discover the cheats.
Are these so-called cheat code sites really delivering what they promise? The simple answer is sometimes.
At first glance many large gaming sites that claim to have codes for every game listed under the sun, including including PS2 codes, simply do not deliver the codes. Browse the site’s game cheat listings. Keep a special lookout for titles that have a cheat page, but say something like “Oops, there aren’t any codes for this title.”
Clearly this can be seen as a that the site was put up rather quickly, and that they may not have an updated database of codes. There are times when there simply are no cheat codes for a particular video game. As developers place more of an emphasis on multiplayer gaming, where codes would be considered a bad thing.
For games like these the cheat websites that have the best cheats will have a seperate area or page specifically for hints and tips. In addition, there should be an area for users to send in their own codes, hints and tips.
A lot of time can be lost while trying to find the best PS2 cheats. Or you can try a few of the sites that come highly recommended from gamers around the world. A couple such sites are About.com’s Video Game Cheats, GameFAQs, and IGN.
Don’t limit yourself to just these sites, the ones listed are a good starting point for anyone searching the the most useful PS2 cheat codes. Remember, you want to spend your time playing the game, not searching for cheat codes.
Video games, regardless of the platform they are played on are now a distraction from the sometimes depressing reality we all live in every day. They give us a break from the mundane, and let our imaginations run on overdrive. Hopefully you have found this guide to be of some use to you and your search for the best ps2 cheat codes.
Have fun playing the game the way you want. Get gaming!

Another name for game cheats would be cheat codes. The original purpose of the game cheat was to allow developers and beta testers to be able to get to a specific area and not have to start the games over all the time. It was then also an option if a player got to a difficult place in the games and could not advance, the option was available to use the games cheat to advance and g o on with the game. Some game cheats would open up new sections, hidden areas, or other types of bonus features. For our article we are going to take a look at the games cheat in reference to online gaming.
If you have ever played games online the odds are you have run into someone cheating. This would be especially true if the game does not include some kind of anti-cheat program. In simple terms cheating is “modifying the game to gain an unfair advantage over the other players. It is at this point we would like to point out that most developers do not build the games cheat into multiplayer games for this reason.
There is a big debate among gamers on what a real cheat is and what isn’t. Some feel that only such things as a aimbot is a games cheat but custom skins, and settings that enhance performance is not. Still others feel that it doesn’t matter a cheat is a cheat. For example in one game a video card w ith a specific video driver will not show fog or it lets you actually see through walls. Some feel that is more than adjusting settings while others feel it’s not their fault so it’s perfectly ok to use that advantage. Then there was a game that had a flaw in it when you also were running MS Messenger. Both these were not intentionally built into the game by developers. Others however felt this was more than adjusting your gamma, brightness and other settings to improve performance so they were game cheats.
There are two other ways of cheating. These two almost everyone in the online gaming community, feel are definitely a games cheat. The first is an exploit.
With an exploit a bug is found on a specific level or game map. The developers didn’t purposely include them, but once found they are very quickly used as a games cheat. Examples would be a hole in a game that would allow you to kill other players but never be hurt or killed yourself. It could have been a piece of code that accidentally got left in the game. The designers may have used these for a specific purpose. Sometimes these exploits will be addressed with update patches, but many times they will stay as the developers feel they are not a high priority.
Hacked files, trainers, aimbots, are other forms of a games cheat. These type of game cheats are mostly the work of people who are adept at coding or programming. The reason for this is this game cheat entails modifying game and or driver files. These modified files are then loaded directly into memory in which case they by-pass the game itself.
So the ultimate decision is based on your own definition of a games cheat as to if you are cheating or not. However it should be mentioned that if you are playing on-line and the rest of the players feel it is cheating you should discontinue what you are doing. Just out of courtesy for others. This way everyone can enjoy the game and this is what the developers did intend.
